Our Healthcare Future and the dialogue are the work of hundreds of concerned people.
We invite communities that host dialogues to post their pictures, survey results and comments in the online community forum. This is a place where you can continue the dialogue with others who are working for a better healthcare future in our nation.
The dialogue was put together and tested by four people who work for organizations concerned about our healthcare future.
Michael Culliton has served from 2006-2009 as the director of the former Center for Healthcare Reform for the St. Joseph Health System in Orange, California. During the development of the dialogue, he worked with NETWORK, a National Catholic Social Justice Lobby in Washington, DC. For more than 20 years he has created dialogue-based workshops that help people consider and take action around important issues like health care.
Jack Glaser is scholar in residence with the St. Joseph Health System and founder of the former Center for Healthcare Reform for the St. Joseph Health System in Orange, California. He has worked as a senior executive in healthcare systems, as a consultant to healthcare executives and as a teacher, philosopher, theologian and psychotherapist. Jack drew the illustrations used on this site, in the manual, and on the video segments.
Irene Jillson is on the faculty of the School of Nursing and Health Studies, Georgetown University Medical Center. She has over 30 years experience in health and social policy work in the U.S. and other countries. An important part of her work has included helping communities to plan and evaluate health services.
Ann Neale is an affiliated scholar at the Center for Clinical Bioethics at Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington, DC, from which she retired in 2008. She has worked in health care for most of her professional life, including as a vice president in two healthcare systems and as staff person for a U.S. senator
Sr. Nancy O'Connor, CSJ was a vital member of the design team. She died during our first year of work. As a leader in the St. Joseph Health System, she dedicated her life to various efforts to improve health care and other systems to better meet people's needs, especially the needs of people in poverty. Our design team dedicates our work on this project to her imaginative, amazing presence.
Allegany Franciscan Ministries, Inc., a foundation of the Allegany Franciscan Sisters, is a leader in helping communities to meet the everyday healthcare needs of people while inviting communities to look at big questions like how to improve our healthcare future. Through their generous funding and a working partnership with Allegany staff, the design team created and pilot-tested the dialogue.
Early dialogues took place in Virginia Beach, Virginia; Baltimore, Maryland; and in Tampa, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Miami, Florida City, West Palm Beach and Stuart, Florida. The dialogue picture gallery and healthcare dialogue video show just a few of the more than 200 people who participated in these dialogues and whose feedback shaped the dialogue design posted on this web site.
